What is a uroflow?
Uroflow is the computerized measurement of a person's urinary stream. This gives information regarding the rate of flow as well as the volume voided.
Why has my doctor recommended that I have this test?
Uroflow is one of several tests that can help your physician gain a better understanding of your ability to urinate.
How is this performed?
A standard uroflow involves a simple urination into a "computerized toilet." The act of urination is exactly the same as you would do at home. It can be accomplished either standing or sitting.
Are there any tubes, catheters or wires?
No, itÂ’s just like voiding at home.
How long does it take?
Only the time that it takes for the urine to come out. Again, it's just like voiding at home.
Is any preparation involved?
Yes. You must have a relatively full bladder to make the test useful. We therefore recommend that you plan ahead a bit and make sure that you have a fair amount to drink and avoid urination for several hours prior to the procedure.
What should I do if I have any more questions?
Make a list. Your physician and his staff will be happy to answer all of your questions before any testing is performed.
