Discontinue aspirin, anti-inflammatory, or any other blood-thinning medications 7-10 days prior to procedure. If you are taking Coumadin, please let us know.
You will be given the following prescriptions today. Please follow the instructions carefully for taking your medications.
Pre-procedure medications:
- Sedation: Valium and Percocet Have this prescription filled at your local pharmacy. Take the prescription home with you and store it in a safe place. On the day of your TUNA procedure take the Percocet at __________ (1 1/2 hours before procedure time. You will be asked to take the Valium after you arrive at the office. Please read and sign your consent form before you take the Percocet.
- Antibiotic: Levaquin or Cipro. Take as prescribed by your urologist.
- Anti-spasmodic (if prescribed): Ditropan XL. Take as prescribed by your urologist.
- Take all of you regularly prescribed medication as directed by your urologist.
- Bring your pre-procedure sedation medication with you to the office.
- Food should be eaten on the day of the procedure. Usually, a light breakfast if your procedure is in the morning if fine or breakfast and a light lunch if scheduled for the afternoon.
- Use a Fleet's enema (available at your local pharmacy or Target) one hour before leaving home.
- Please arrange transportation to and from the office by a family member or friend. We will not allow you to leave in a taxi.
- Wear comfortable loose fitting clothing.
- Decrease or eliminate your alcohol, caffeine and tobacco use 48 hours prior to the procedure.
- You may bring books, magazines or headsets with tapes to the office. We have a CD player if you would like to bring your favorite CD.
