AFTER YOUR CYSTOSCOPY OR URETHRAL DILATION...
You have just had a cystoscopy which allows your doctor to directly examine the inside of your bladder.
AND/OR
You have just had a urethral dilation; the stretching or "dilation" of the urethra (the tube from the bladder to the outside of the body, through which you pass urine).
YOUR DOCTOR OR NURSE HAS GIVEN YOU SOME INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE.
HERE ARE A FEW REMINDERS FOR YOU TO HAVE, AFTER YOU LEAVE OUR OFFICE:
- You may have temporary burning or blood spotting when you urinate during the first 24-36 hours following your procedure.
- Drink 6 glasses of liquids (4 glasses should be water), to help relieve any slight burning or urgency. DO THIS IN THE FIRST 12-24 HOURS FOLLOWING YOUR PROCEDURE.
- A warm tub bath following your procedure will help relieve any discomfort. DO NOT PUT ANY BATH OILS OR CRYSTALS IN THE WATER.
- Avoid sexual intercourse for 24-48 hours after your procedure. IF you have any specific questions about this, please ask your doctor before leaving our office.
- After cystoscopy, you may have the sensation of "air" passing from your bladder during the first few hours following your procedure.
PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE OR YOUR DOCTOR IF:
- Pain on urination continues after 24-36 hours.
- You are unable to urinate.
- You develop bright red bleeding that will not stop.
- You develop a fever and/or chills.
- You have pain or swelling that is severe and uncomfortable.
- YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.
